Ever since the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure came to St. Louis I have participated in the 5K Walk/Run. My mom, my sister and I get up at six o'clock in the morning every year and head to the other side of the River to make sure we don't miss the motorcycle riders with their pink bandanas. In 1999 when the Race first came to St. Louis there were 10,257 participants; St. Louis still holds the record for the largest first year race around the world. Today, they are ranked in the top five races around the world.There are many ways that people can become involved in Race for the Cure. Volunteers help at registration prior to the event and the day of. Donations are accepted throughout the year to go towards breast cancer research. And of course, participants are encouraged to walk or run in the race.
Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure is now a global foundation and it is easy for anyone to become involved. Over $1 billion has been raised since 1982 and St. Louis alone has raised $3.3 million with just under 64,000 participants.

This year we participated in the walk for the cure with work. I remember walking and when we got to the top of a hill and then looked behind us, all you could see was miles of people. There were so many people, it was unreal and amazing at the same time! I know it definitely makes you feel good when you have done your part to try and help.
I love participating in run/walks like this one! It's great to see how many people get out there and show their support!
Hey Jada! I really like the concept of your page. It's good to see that people still have hope in their hearts and the will to help. I don't know if you knew, but Alpha Sigma Phi did the "Rest For Breasts" event earlier this semester which raised over $500 for the American Breast Cancer Society. We will continue to do events like that in future semesters, so I'm sure we could definately network with you and bring more attention to it if you're interested. Past that, I like your page a lot. The pink really adds to it as well. lol.
